1. Tell us about yourself and how you started your journey at such a young age.

I’m Fatima AlKaabi, a young inventor and passionate advocate for STEM. My journey began at a very young age when I was recognized as the youngest inventor in the UAE back in 2015. Growing up, I’ve always been driven by a desire to solve real-world problems through creativity and innovation. This passion led me to create 12 inventions, with a particular focus on making life easier and more efficient for others, such as building a robot to attend school for sick children. My family has always been supportive, and their encouragement, combined with my natural curiosity, motivated me to pursue projects that have a positive impact on the community.

2. What inspired you to embrace eco-friendly practices and make a shift towards sustainability?

As an inventor, I’m constantly looking for solutions to problems that affect the community. Through my work, I became increasingly aware of the importance of sustainability and its impact on the world. The desire to create lasting, meaningful change inspired me to focus on eco-friendly practices, not only in my inventions but also in my daily life. Seeing the potential of technology to drive environmental solutions was a key motivator for embracing sustainability.

3. What are the primary steps you take to integrate eco-friendly practices into your lifestyle?

I focus on reducing waste, conserving energy, and choosing sustainable alternatives whenever possible. This includes using energy-efficient appliances, reducing my plastic use, and opting for sustainable materials in my projects. I also stay mindful of my consumption patterns, making sure to support eco-friendly businesses and initiatives.

4. Share some of the most effortless yet impactful eco-friendly changes you’ve made in your daily routine.

One simple but effective change I’ve made is using reusable water bottles and bags, which has greatly reduced my reliance on single-use plastics. Additionally, I’ve made a conscious effort to reduce food waste by properly storing leftovers and being mindful of portion sizes. These small actions have contributed to a more sustainable lifestyle with little effort.

5. What difficulties have you encountered while striving to live in an environmentally conscious manner?

One challenge I’ve faced is finding eco-friendly products that are both effective and accessible. Sometimes, sustainable options can be more expensive or harder to find, which makes it difficult to fully transition to a zero-waste lifestyle. However, the more I learn about sustainability, the easier it becomes to make informed choices.

6. Describe a rewarding moment on your sustainability journey.

One of the most rewarding moments was when I received recognition for one of my eco-friendly inventions. It was incredibly fulfilling to see how technology and innovation could contribute to sustainability and make a positive impact on society. That moment solidified my belief that every small action counts, and the collective effort can bring about real change.

7. What are some misconceptions about being eco-friendly that you’d like to debunk?

One common misconception is that being eco-friendly requires major sacrifices or a complete lifestyle overhaul. In reality, small, consistent changes can make a big difference. You don’t have to be perfect; it’s about being mindful of your choices and making improvements over time. Eco-friendly living is often more accessible than people think.

8. From your perspective, how does technology contribute to the promotion of sustainable practices and attitudes?

Technology plays a huge role in sustainability by offering innovative solutions to environmental problems. From smart energy systems that optimize energy use to robotics like the Teleporter that can help sick children continue their education, technology enables more sustainable practices. It allows for better resource management, efficiency, and creativity in solving environmental challenges.

9. How do you plan on continuing your sustainability journey? What other aspects do you plan to change?

I plan to continue developing eco-friendly solutions in my projects and inventions. Moving forward, I aim to incorporate more sustainable practices into my work, particularly in the tech and innovation space, to create products that are both functional and environmentally conscious. Additionally, I’ll focus on educating others through social media and workshops, promoting sustainability as a collective effort.

10. Lastly, how do you think we can ensure that eco-friendly options and choices are available and attainable for a diverse range of individuals?

Making eco-friendly options more accessible requires collaboration between governments, businesses, and individuals. We need to raise awareness and provide incentives for people to make sustainable choices. It’s also important to ensure that eco-friendly products are affordable, practical, and available in local markets. Education and awareness will play a key role in ensuring sustainability becomes a global movement that everyone can participate in.
