Tell us about Kyma

Kyma has reengineered and reinvented cleaning by creating surface cleaners in tablet form.  By adding water to a reusable bottle and dropping in a tablet of concentrated cleaning product, we are able to reduce our use of single-use plastics in our home.

Our goal is to make sustainability convenient, affordable and attractive. We hope to empower customers by offering them the option to be sustainable and the opportunity to contribute to enhancing the future of our planet.

We believe the consumer of the future wants it all, the opportunity to have a high-quality effective product, while also reducing their impact on the planet. We’ve also seen a lot of engagement around the ethos with which we operate, by using non-toxic ingredients that are safe for people and safe for the planet.

Kyma Founders

A little bit about the Founders / story of how you started out?

We are three girl friends who came together to create something out of concern with our own levels of consumption and our impact on the future of our planet. We felt that none of the existing products in the market served our needs as consumers.  We recognized that we had to simplify and democratize sustainability. So, we set out on a mission to come up with an idea that would make sustainability easy and accessible to all. It was a light bulb moment for the team. We were hesitant about entering the competitive FMCG industry, but our belief in the idea trumped our hesitations in the end.

What impact is Kyma trying to make? And what practices do you follow at the company level to be eco-friendly?

The Plastic Problem: Much of single-use plastic enters our oceans and has harmful effects on everyone. Up to 90% of the water we drink and the food we eat contain microplastics, and by 2050, scientists predict that the ocean will contain more plastic by weight than fish. We were shocked to learn all of this, and this is where Kyma was born.   Kyma in Greek means ‘wave’, and there’s a lot of symbolism to this name. The element of water is what makes this planet what it is today. We need to make sure we use it responsibly and protect it, and we hope that Kyma can lead this new wave of change.

What sets Kyma apart?

The refill and reuse model disrupts the manufacturing processes of an industry that has been very limited on innovation. We need bold innovations that challenge existing designs, materials and business models. Our priority is to rethink traditional approaches and pave the way for new solutions such as reusable and refillable models.

As a new company, where do you aspire to be in 5 years?

Our plan is to continue developing products that will impact everyone’s life and reduce our consumption of single-use plastics. We aim to build a lifestyle brand that uses chemical and technological innovation to reengineer fast moving consumer goods to make them more ecological and consumer friendly. In the future we hope to make people more aware of the choices they have when buying products.  Everyone who wishes to be part of a positive change should have the freedom to choose products that match their preferences, budget and convenience and can play an equal role in making this world a better, cleaner place.

The most natural thing to do is to act on it, help the environment in any way, no matter how small and enable people to do it, too.
