Brand Spotlight- ThrowMeNot

  1. What inspired the creation of ThrowMeNot, and how does it stand out in its industry?

ThrowMeNot was born from a simple but powerful observation — every day, tons of perfectly good food and consumer goods are discarded because they are approaching their expiry date. We saw a massive opportunity to connect the dots between distributors struggling with unsold inventory and consumers increasingly driven by value and sustainability. We spoke to all big distributors at Gulfood 2024 and 100% confirmed the problem exists and it’s still not being solved so we decided to take action.

Unlike traditional discount stores, ThrowMeNot introduces full transparency by showing the expiry date of every product and applying dynamic pricing based on shelf life and demand. This transforms near-expiry stock into a discovery experience rather than a clearance sale — helping customers explore quality items they might have skipped in retail, at better prices. It’s a smart choice – saving money while doing a real quantifiable impact.

  1. Can you share how your products or services drive innovation while addressing environmental or social challenges?

ThrowMeNot innovates by merging e-commerce intelligence with sustainability impact. Our platform uses expiry-linked dynamic pricing, data-driven demand forecasting, and warehouse automation to make sustainability measurable and scalable.

Every order placed prevents waste and extends the lifecycle of products that would otherwise end up in landfills. We also integrate community and CSR mechanisms — enabling companies to sponsor “Sustainability Boxes” that go to employees or charitable causes, directly linking corporate action to measurable impact under the UAE’s ne’ma national initiative.

We launched an affiliate program open to everyone who wants to contribute to the impact https://throwmenot.ae/pages/affiliate-program and at the same time be rewarded.

  1. How does ThrowMeNot ensure its operations remain aligned with sustainability and eco-friendly practices?

Sustainability is embedded into every layer of our operations.

  • We source only from verified distributors and retailers, ensuring that all products are within safe shelf life.
  • Our packaging is recyclable, and we are exploring reusable delivery options.
  • We consolidate orders and use last-mile partners with carbon-tracking and offset options, such as Quiqup.
  • Internally, we start tracking waste diversion metrics and align reporting with the ne’ma national food loss framework.

Additionally, our upcoming Sustainability Hub in Al Quoz will host workshops, repair and recycling counters, and creator events — reinforcing a culture of conscious consumption.

  1. What are some partnerships or collaborations you’re particularly proud of, and why?

We are proud to work under the vision of UAE’s ne’ma initiative and the MENA Impact Community, which aligns us with the nation’s sustainability vision.

Among our collaborations:

  • Sparklo — integrating ThrowMeNot offers into recycling kiosks to reward eco-friendly actions.
  • Showoff DXB — event partnerships combining sustainability education with community engagement.

Each collaboration reflects our philosophy — making sustainability visible, practical, and rewarding.

  1. What challenges has your brand faced in your sustainability journey, and how have you overcome them?

The biggest challenge has been changing perception — many consumers initially associate near-expiry products with poor quality. We overcame this by building trust and transparency into the platform: every product clearly shows its expiry date, source, and discount logic.

On the operational side, onboarding suppliers and synchronizing expiry-based inventory required building a new fulfillment model — blending on-demand collection from distributor warehouses with our own micro-fulfillment center in Dubai. We invested in education, consistency, and technology rather than aggressive discounting — and that’s what built long-term credibility.

  1. What advice would you give to businesses looking to innovate sustainably?

Start small, but start authentically. Sustainability shouldn’t be treated as a marketing angle — it must be part of your core business logic.

Focus on measurable outcomes rather than statements — how much waste you prevent, how much energy you save, or how your community benefits. Build partnerships early, share data transparently, and embrace experimentation.

Innovation doesn’t always mean inventing something new — sometimes, it means rethinking what already exists and designing systems that make the right choice the easy one.
