How did the idea for Save Me come about, and what motivated the company to focus on rescuing food from restaurants that would otherwise go to waste?

I used to live in Paris, and my connection to the UAE comes from visiting my extended family there. During one of my visits, I experienced something that deeply affected me. While dining out at a restaurant in the UAE, I witnessed fresh and perfectly good food being thrown away. It struck me because, in my hometown, wasting food was a foreign concept. We always found ways to share excess food with neighbors or donate it to those in need. Curiosity led me to research food waste in the UAE, and what I discovered was staggering. The amount of food wasted each year in the region was not only shocking but also deeply troubling. It was evident that this was a pressing issue that needed immediate attention. Motivated by a desire to make a positive impact and address this critical problem, I set out to find a solution. That’s how the concept for Save Me was born. I envisioned a platform that could bridge the gap between restaurants with surplus food and individuals looking for affordable dining options. It was clear to me that we could create a win-win scenario where we could reduce food waste while simultaneously providing cost-effective and delicious meals to people. Save Me’s mission is rooted in sustainability, community, and the belief that we can make a significant difference in the fight against food waste.

At Save Me, we’ve streamlined the process of acquiring and selling surplus food from restaurants to customers. First, we establish partnerships with restaurants, cafes, and bakeries committed to reducing food waste. These stores use our platform to list their surplus food items in real-time, including details like cuisine type, number of items, original price, and the discounted rate. Customers then browse these listings on our app or website, placing orders with the option for pickup or delivery. Our dedicated team of riders then collects the food from the restaurant and delivers it to the customer’s location, all while ensuring real-time tracking.

While it’s relatively early in our journey, we’re thrilled to share some promising statistics that underscore the positive impact Save Me has had since our beta app launch in March 2023. We’ve rapidly grown our user base to include over 4,000+ customers who have joined us in our mission to combat food waste and enjoy affordable, delicious meals. Additionally, we’ve formed partnerships with more than 250+ restaurants and cafes in the UAE, all of whom share our commitment to reducing food waste. While we continue to expand and gather data on food waste reduction, we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken so far in diverting surplus food from landfills and providing cost-effective dining choices to our customers. Our success stories are not just in the numbers but in the stories of restaurants minimizing waste through our platform and customers enjoying great meals at discounted prices.
