Please provide a brief introduction to your company’s most impactful green office initiative.

Advanced Media has successfully reduced landfill waste by 25% since 2021 through strategic partnerships with waste collection companies offering plastic, paper and steel recycling and composting. We have created clear segregation stations in every single one of our premises to make sure waste is being disposed of properly and responsibly. Regular awareness campaigns, both offline and online on our social media platforms, and a near-total ban of plastic bottles and plastic bags have also played significant roles in making this initiative a successful one. We have also gone beyond simply managing our own waste. We have been encouraging our clients and the public to learn about waste management and responsible disposal of electronic waste since 2022. E-waste is considered the fastest-growing waste stream in the world and 83 percent of electronic waste is not recycled. Advanced Media has placed two bins at our Showroom and Service Center to allow everyone to dispose of e-waste. As the largest retailer of professional video, photo, broadcast and cinema equipment and accessories in the MENA region, we see it as our social and moral duty to find creative solutions in managing electronic waste.
Explain the initiative’s goals, objectives, and how it aligns with your commitment to sustainability.

Advanced Media’s sustainability and social responsibility agenda follows the philosophy endorsed by the AMT of Social Responsibility. (You can learn more about it on www.amt.tv/csr) The AMT of Social Responsibility for the Planet endorses Awareness, Minimalism and Technology Transfer. Guided by these principles, the recycling and composting initiatives are continuously raising awareness within our premises and the wider community about the importance of proper waste management and disposal and the adverse effects of landfill waste on the environment and our health. The initiative also encourages employees and client to adapt a more minimal approach to consumption and to actively reduce waste. And lastly, we use our resources and audience to advocate for creative and innovative measures our waste management partners are taking to combat climate change.
Elaborate on the initiative, highlighting its key features and strategies for achieving sustainability goals. Please provide a detailed account.

We have forged reciprocal and strategic partnership with three waste management companies to ensure we responsibly recycle and dispose of waste. Special recycling boxes for plastic bottles and cans and paper have been provided by RECAPP to allow employees, suppliers and customers to segregate their recyclables (plastics bottles and aluminum cans and paper) efficiently and effectively. On average, 32 kg of paper, plastic and steel have been recycled monthly. Our partnership with The Waste Lab, a women-owned, UAE-based, and impact-driven startup, enables us to tackle the issues around food loss and waste and to raise awareness within the community together – through nature-based composting and repurposing solutions – for the benefit of the local soil, food and environment. Since 2023, Advanced Media has diverted over 600 kg of food waste from landfill, and collected and recycled over one tonne e-waste with the assistance of Enviroserve since 2021.
Our marketing team collaborates closely with these companies to highlight relevant days such as Global Recycling Day (March 18th), International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (September 29) and International E-waste Day (October 14) on our social media platforms to transparently discuss the measures Advanced Media has taken, and educate our audience on issues that align with values of our company and hopefully our clients.
Share any significant lessons or insights your company has gained through this initiative. Reflect on challenges faced and how your team overcame them to create a more eco-friendly workspace.

There is a lot of cynicism and skepticism around climate action, and there is a sense of helpless that our employees experience when they watch the effects of natural disasters and pollution in their home countries on the news. We are privileged to have diverse workforces in the region and climate anxiety is unfortunately a uniting factor. Providing practical solutions and sharing results openly with your employees can alleviate some of that anxiety and empower them. We have learnt that by providing tangible examples and relying on rewarding and assuring narratives, instead of reprimands or force, you encourage eco-friendly behavior in the workplace.
Offer recommendations or advice for other businesses seeking to implement similar sustainable practices in their workspaces. Share practical insights that can help inspire and guide their efforts.

It is not practical or sustainable to initiate and implement green practices at the workplace without the collective knowledge and effort of everyone involved. Before the CSR Department was officially established at Advanced Media, we sat down with every single employee. Over 100 people offered their feedback and suggestions. For instance, the first steps towards a near-total ban of plastic in our premises started to assuage the climate anxiety that many employees actually expressed. The images of plastic washing up on the beautiful beaches of the Philippines or India evoke a visceral and existentialist response. Start by simply having a conversation with your employees about the environment and together seek solutions that prove your commitment and goodwill and gain their trust.
Moreover, receiving verification and feedback from relevant stakeholders and assessment bodies not only provide a moment of celebration and validation, but also energizes the employees. It sets a benchmark of achievement and It is necessary to apply for certifications and commit to audits. Advanced Media is proud to have received verification for our near-term science-based emissions reduction target by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We are the only media retailer in the world, one of just five SMEs in the UAE – and 1 of only 15 organizations nationwide – to achieve this remarkable milestone. We were also awarded the Dubai Chamber of Commerce ESG Label and earned a Committed Badge in the EcoVadis assessment in 2024.
