Pause, Think, Reset & SHIFT >> The New Normal

2 Mins read

The spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has shaken the world. While we continue to undergo a whirlwind of emotionally charged feelings of anxiety & grief, can we use learnings of this pandemic and our time at home to pause, think & reset to emerge as a better, stronger world? Questions we need to ask ourselves at this time is: How can we use this disruption to improve our world?

The SHIFT to a ‘new normal’ should not only consists of social distancing and hygiene practices, but also a new wave of conscious consumerism.  To put in perspective all the resources that we take for granted and examine our choices with an eye to improve sustainability.

As we begin to sound preachy, we must mention, that this is a definite new for us. Like a lot of us, We ourselves have been totally guilty of owning cupboard full of clothes and shoes, kitchen full of plastic, and taking showers that last long till my song playlist comes to an end. Never had this thought crossed our mind that when we pick up a single use plastic bottle off the shelf, this could then be disposed off in a landfill or the ocean, and would take upto 500 years to disintegrate. But we’ve slowly begun to realize, that this needs to change.

And this needs to change now. But where does one even start? The change doesn’t have to be overwhelming & tedious. Your choices do not have to be compromised in order to live green. And I’m not even asking you to be a different being overnight. We can start with small, simple SHIFTS.

Let’s start with identifying 3 changes we can make. Look into your cupboards, look into your kitchen, or maybe put a green filter when you’re out shopping next. Ask yourself, what small changes you can make? Can I pledge to not buy plastic containers for my kitchen anymore? I mean, steel does the job as well, no? Or can I make sure I carry a foldable tote when I’m out shopping next? Or simply, can I be conscious about sending all my monthly plastic waste to recycling? Can I re-use containers, instead of throwing them away? Can I check expiry dates of all the foods and products I own, and put them to efficient use, so I don’t have to throw all that away! Or can I make some easy SHIFTS to eco-friendly products?

Let’s plant that seed in our minds, so we strive towards a better, healed world. ☺

You’re not alone. Share your experiences, tips, tricks; post your questions or even challenge what we’ve written! Let’s build an eco-conscious community together!

Happy SHIFTING!
